When I first started this blog, I had no clue what direction to take.  I felt I should try to write something and perhaps I could gain some insight as I went along.  But for me, the old adage is correct; he who aims at nothing, hits it every time.  Without a clear vision of what I wanted to offer with my writing, consistency was all but impossible.  Plus, I have come to understand that I am a person of structure.  While I can be spontaneous when the situation calls for it, I function much better when I have a goal, an idea of a destination, and I know the steps to take to reach it.  Direction motivates purpose.

Focus

I’ve heard that your writing should reflect your passion. The Apostle Paul said in I Timothy 2:4, that God “desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” When I consider what piques my interest or what concerns me in any situation, it boils down to a simple question; what is the truth? What really happened? What was actually said? What is the absolute bottom line? So much of what we deal with in life is not a reflection of truth but of opinion and speculation. I want people to cut through all the fear, exaggeration, and ulterior motives and see the real truth from God’s perspective; to have the knowledge of the truth, in all things.

Structure

I know better than to set anything in concrete, but for now, I’ve decided on a weekly posting schedule. I’ll post on the four Sundays of the month, (or at least by Monday) and the fifth when it occurs, with each Sunday relating to a particular category. Those categories in order are Exposition, Thoughts, Topics, Writing, and Authors.

Exposition will be a short study of one or more Bible verses.  The study may be in sermon format or simply an examination of what’s there, but the focus will be on a particular scripture or passage.

Thoughts is just that; what I think about a given topic or idea.  These could be things that occur to me, current events, or any item of interest.  No one enjoys reading babble so I will endeavor to keep the subjects relevant.

Topics refers to Christian or Biblical topics.  These could be doctrines, teachings, or ideas found within the Bible or the Christian faith.  This will differ from Exposition in that I’ll use various scriptures to show what the Bible says regarding the particular issue.

Writing will cover some aspect of the writing world from my perspective.  Tips I’ve discovered, blogging ideas, industry trends; basically anything writing related.  The good writer is always learning, and while I’m no teacher, I can certainly pass on what others have given me.

Since there are only four fifth Sundays in a year, I’m planning to ask another Author to guest post for these.  I may request a post regarding a particular subject relevant to the guest or simply provide an open platform.  Whatever the format, I hope to highlight the author’s unique insight and voice.

I’m also allowing for multiple categories in each post.  Perhaps an issue arises which needs a timely response, but the schedule calls for scripture exposition.  The primary category will be covered first, followed by the additional idea.  This should allow some flexibility and prevent the schedule from becoming too restrictive.

Other Changes

I’ve made a few other changes.  After much deliberation and observation of other blog sites that I admire, I decided to use my own name for the site.  I came to realize it’s the simplest way to market the brand and the easiest way for people to recognize me.  I also changed the site tag to reflect my focus on truth.  Some may wonder about truth being shades of gray, but to see the truth you must be able to recognize opinion, speculation, and assumption.  That in itself is the truth.

Everything is still a work in progress, but I believe I’ve made a good start.  I hope you’ll find what you read here to be interesting, informative, and perhaps occasionally controversial.  I don’t claim to have a monopoly on the truth, so whether you agree or disagree, I hope you leave your thoughts, comments, corrections, and questions.  Thanks for stopping by, and I pray you come to the knowledge of the truth.
