Romans 12:4 “…we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office”
I’m afraid part of our problem in our churches today is that we don’t recognize the gifts of some of the members or allow them to use those gifts. As a result, the body does not function properly. I have yet to see a church that recognizes and uses prophets, the gifts of prophecy and determination/discernment.
16 “…Be not wise in your own conceits.”
18 “If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.”
Romans 13:1-7 Paul admonishes us to respect the authorities over us as ordained of God. As stated there, this would be totally true in principle. However, he does make a statement which clarifies in verse 3.
3 “…rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same”
Unfortunately, sometimes the authority is itself evil. They have no interest in doing good and punish those who stand for it. When that happens, we must stand as Peter and John and say we must obey God rather than men when men’s edicts are contrary to God’s. This does not give us leave for disrespect, only to follow God and try to correct those who would have us do otherwise.
14 “But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.”
