Genesis 23:2  “…Sarah died in Kirjath Arba (that is, Hebron)…”
Not told how much time has passed between the events of the last chapter and now.  They were at Beersheba when last mentioned.  They are now at or around Hebron.

9  “…Let him give it to me at the full price…”
Give it to me to purchase.  Abraham wasn’t asking for a handout.  He was asking that they offer it to him to buy from them.

11  “…I give you the field and the cave…”
Abraham only asked to purchase the cave.  Ephron offers to give him cave and the field.  Commentary suggests Ephron is merely getting in the process of making a deal and Abraham is playing along.  They will decide on exactly what is being sold and what the price will be.

15  “…land is worth four hundred shekels of silver. What is that between you and me?…”
Slipped the price right in there, seemingly as an afterthought.

16  “…Abraham weighed out the silver for Ephron…”
So the field and cave are together and the price is four hundred shekels of silver.  Abraham weighs it out, and the deal is made.  He has now formally purchased land in Canaan although God has already given all of it to him.

17  “…the field and the cave…all the trees that were in the field…”
We’re not told how much land was involved, how big the field was, but the details of the land purchase are specific.

I hope you enjoy reading and studying His word.  May it accomplish what He desires.  Please feel free to comment or post questions.  Thanks for reading!
