22 “…do not worry about your life…”
Easy to say, not easy to do. Jesus said it, so I definitely want to do it, but it is so difficult when you’re out of a job with no income and the bills keep coming in. And you’re blue in the face from praying with no answers and no relief in sight. I don’t have the answers, to any of it, but I can say what you don’t do is give up on God. He is the only way, regardless of what happens. You keep praying, keep trusting, and keep trying not to worry.
31 “…seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you”
Am finally to this point. And I don’t know exactly how to do it. Matthew says seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. That’s my desire. Still working on exactly how. And the stress from the lack of all these things really makes it difficult.
33 “…give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old…”
Generosity. Giving to others. Provides treasure in Heaven which is perfectly safe from decay and theft. Earthly goods will all be destroyed someday. The only way to achieve real wealth is to do things which have heavenly rewards which will last forever.
34 “…where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”
Another reason. To get our focus on the heavenly rather than the earthly. Thinking on the things of God instead of those of man.
35 “…waist be girded and your lamps burning”
Ready to go. Preparations made to move. Just waiting on the word.
37 “…I say to you that he will gird himself and have them sit down to eat, and will come and serve them”
Reward of the faithful servants. Not just a monetary reward, but the master Himself will serve them. Total relationship with God. No distance between us. That is the true joy of Heaven.
40 “…you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect”
I think it goes beyond just being saved, which is certainly part of it. You aren’t ready for His return unless you’ve accepted His gift of salvation. But I think it also means going about His business. Occupying until He comes. Not wasting our time doing frivolous things, hoping we don’t get caught. Blessed are those servants whom the Lord finds watching when He comes.
I hope you enjoy reading and studying His word. May it accomplish what He desires. Please feel free to comment or post questions. Thanks for reading!
